Characters: Colonies are hemispherical, less than 0.5 metres across, with an even surface.
Colour: Cream, grey or brown.
Similar Species: Porites echinulata, which has more widely spaced corallites and a columnar growth-form. The deeply excavated calices of P. densa are readily recognisable underwater. See also Poritipora paliformis which has corallites of similar size.
Habitat: Back reef margins.
Abundance: Sometimes common.
