Characters: Colonies are submassive, encrusting or foliose, with or without nodular upgrowths. Corallites are small; immersed on flat parts of colonies, exsert on upgrowths. The latter have rims of very irregular papillae. Coenosteum papillae are also present on upgrowths.

Colour: Pale brown (with blue polyps which may photograph purple).

Similar Species: Montipora turtlensis, which has a very similar range of growth-forms but distinctive corallites. See also M. efflorescens and M. stilosa.

Habitat: Shallow reef slopes.

Abundance: Uncommon.
