Characters: Colonies are nodular or form small flattened branches. The latter may be only weakly attached to the substrate. Corallites are circular, not well defined and are not in valleys except at the tips of nodular growths where they are usually crowded. Septa are thick and wedge-shaped and have serrated margins. Columellae are prominent.

Colour: Tan, grey or yellow-brown.

Similar Species: Psammocora contigua, which has larger branches with relatively superficial corallites. See also P. stellata.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments and rubble.

Abundance: Rare.

Taxonomic Note: Considered a junior synonym of Psammocora contigua by Stefani, Benzoni, Pichon et al. (2008). However, it is distinct when it occurs together with this species.
