Characters: Colonies are massive, submassive or encrusting. Corallites are immersed or exsert and are surrounded by fused thecal papillae. Coenosteum papillae are usually present.

Colour: Usually pale brown, green or blue (which may photograph purple).

Similar Species: Montipora grisea. See also M. australiensis.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Usually uncommon.
