(Moll and Best, 1984)

Micromussa

Veron, 2000

Characters: Colonies are massive, cerioid, with circular corallites 5-6 millimetres diameter. Walls are thick. Septa are beaded and columellae are poorly developed. Colonies do not have thick fleshy tissue over the skeleton. Colonies may have 'groove and tubercle' structures separating corallites.

Colour: Pale grey.

Similar Species: Micromussa diminuta. See also M. amakusensis, which has larger, fleshy, angular corallites with thin walls and no costae. Underwater this species can readily be mistaken for a Favia with small corallites.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Rare.

Taxonomic Note: May be difficult to separate from other Micromussa. Placing of this species in Micromussa is tentative.
