Acropora

Oken, 1815

Characters: Colonies are compact bushes with delicate upright branches creating thickets. Branches form at acute angles. Axial and radial corallites are both tubular and of similar length down branches.

Similar Species: This species has not been clearly delineated from Acropora parilis. See also A. derawanensis which has finer and more irregular branches.

Habitat: Shallow protected reef environments, especially lagoons.

Abundance: Sometimes common .

Taxonomic Note: Considered a junior synonym of Acropora parilis by Veron (2000a) but reinstated here pending further study as there are significant differences between the type specimen of A. halmaherae and Quelch's (1886) description of A. parilis.
