Characters: Colonies form submassive plates and/or columns. Corallites are small and shallow, each with a few slightly exsert petaloid primary septa.
Colour: Purple, grey or brown.
Similar Species: The growth-form is unlike any other Psammocora species but colonies of Coscinaraea exesa may be similar in shape.
Habitat: Most reef environments.
Abundance: Usually uncommon.
Taxonomic Note: Taxonomic characters are poorly differentiated. Incorrectly interpreted by Veron and Pichon (1976).
