Pachyseris

Milne Edwards and Haime, 1849

Characters: Colonies are small unifacial laminae, usually horizontal, partly encrusting. Valleys are short and shallow, roughly concentric and parallel to the corallum margins. Calices are distinct, with distinct columellae. Ridges between valleys are irregular in height and width with neatly arranged septo-costae all of the same order.

Colour: Light brown or blue-grey.

Similar Species: Does not closely resemble any other Pachyseris species. .

Habitat: Reef habitats.

Abundance: Unknown, but probably not uncommon.

Taxonomic Note: Superficially looks like a Leptoseris, especially L. foliosa and has been overlooked in fieldwork for this reason. Morphological identification is supported by molecular study.
