Characters: Colonies are thin and encrusting. Corallites are approximately one millimetre diameter and are mostly submerged in the coenosteum. Corallite papillae are evenly spaced.

Colour: Brown with blue centres (which may photograph pink).

Similar Species: Montipora patula and M. effusa, which are not primarily encrusting.

Habitat: Reef flats.

Abundance: Sometimes common.

Taxonomic Note: Found to be genetically similar to Montipora patula by Forsman, Concepcion, Haverkort et al. (2010) in Hawaii. The two species appear to be distinct elsewhere.
