Characters: Colonies are horizontal to vertical plates or thick columns and branches. Corallites are immersed and indistinct. The coenosteum has tuberculae fused into ridges forming the same pattern as some Porites species and Montipora confusa.

Colour: Purple, green, blue (which may photograph pink) or brown, with pale growing margins.

Similar Species: Montipora danae, if large tuberculae are formed. See also M. monasteriata, M. confusa and M. circumvallata.

Habitat: Mostly upper reef slopes.

Abundance: Common.
