Characters: This is a primarily azooxanthellate species. Colonies consist of clumps of fine twisted branches, usually with encrusting bases. Corallites are subcerioid and rounded in outline, with solid conical columellae. Usually ten primary septa are present and these are fused with the columella. Secondary septa are weakly developed or absent. The coenosteum is covered by coarse spinules.

Colour: Brown.

Similar Species: Madracis asanoi, which has more exsert and plunging septa and finer coenosteum spinules.

Habitat: Rocky foreshores below 12 metres depth.

Abundance: Uncommon.
