Characters: Colonies are encrusting, explanate plates or knob-like. Corallites are shallow and have thin walls. Septa are numerous and even. Polyps are short, without tubular trunks. This is a rare species that has been little studied.

Colour: Brown, grey or mottled.

Similar Species: Goniopora somaliensis, which has smaller corallites and a distinctive colouration.

Habitat: Shallow reef environments.

Abundance: Rare.
