Taxonomic note: A species complex. Considered a species of Barabattoia (= Favia) by many authors and Dipsastraea (= Favia) by Huang, Benzoni, Fukami et al. (2014). See Wijsman-Best (1972, 1974). Molecular study shows that the presence of extratentacular budding is not a generic-level character, hence inclusion of this species in genus Favia
