Characters: Colonies are massive and may be over 4 metres across. The surface is usually nodular. Corallites are in deeply excavated pits and are distinctive underwater.
Colour: Uniform or mottled green or brown.
Similar Species: Porites solida, which has superficially similar corallites. Calice characters are closest to P. australiensis.
Habitat: Upper reef slopes exposed to strong wave action.
Abundance: Usually uncommon.
