Fungia taiwanensis

Characters: Polyps are elongate and up to 280 millimetres long with irregular sides. They are thick and heavy and usually have a strong central arch. Most primary septa extend from the mouth to the perimeter. There are many secondary mouths. Tentacular lobes are usually white.

Colour: Brown, with white tentacles.

Similar Species: Fungia moluccensis, which is smaller, has fewer mouths and does not have white tentacular lobes.

Habitat: Reef environments.

Abundance: Uncommon.

Taxonomic Note: Called Pleuractis taiwanensis by Gittenberger, Reijnen and Hoeksema (2011) from molecular data. However, this requires further study.
