Characters: Polyps are circular or oval, up to 125 millimetres diameter and strongly arched. Septa are densely packed and straight and have small blunt teeth. The axial mouth is well defined and the outer surface is covered with small peripheral mouths separated by septa of variable length. There are no tentacular lobes.

Colour: Pale brown.

Similar Species: Septa are Herpolitha-like, otherwise the species resembles Fungia scabra.

Habitat: Reef slopes and lagoons.

Abundance: Uncommon.

Taxonomic Note: Considered a synonyn of Fungia fungites by Hoeksema (2015: WoRMS, Fungia puishani). However, it is closer to Fungia scabra.
