Taxonomic note: Further evaluation of types has recognised this species as a synonym of the previously described but little known species Astrea rotulosa (Ellis and Solander, 1786). More recently Astrea (= Plesiastrea) devantieri was retained by Huang, Benzoni, Fukami et al. (2014) as a separate ‘sister’ species, but the holotype of Plesiastrea devantieri is unambiguously A. rotulosa
