Taxonomic note: The type species of Leptoseris. Taxonomic characters are unknown. The type specimen, re-described by Chevalier (1961, doctoral thesis on Mediterranean Miocene reef corals) now appears to be lost; see Dinesen (1980) for details. The name Leptoseris fragilis was applied to Lithophyllon undulatum by Matthai (1924) who noted a close similarity with the type specimen. Recorded in several locations from the Red Sea to the western Pacific. See 'Overview of coral taxonomy'
